Quantitative inspection of grain‐scale chemical inhomogeneities in high‐entropy AlB <sub>2</sub> ‐type transition metal diborides

The chemical homogeneity of single phase high-entropy AlB2-type Ti-Zr-Hf-Ta-TM diboride (TM = Cr, V, W, Mo), as well Ti-Zr-Hf-Mo-W solid solutions was investigated using a new method based on the comparative examination information provided by electron microscopy and structural parameters. study densification behavior accomplished, strong correlations among rate-grain coarsening-long range randomization were found. High-resolution synchrotron radiation X-ray diffraction supported grain-scale analyses energy dispersive spectroscopy indicated that homogenization metals incomplete, with direct impact refined lattice μ-strain. inhomogeneity same length scale grain size, which makes it hardly detectable typical mapping spectroscopy. Based this analysis, resulting μ-strain broadening is not an intrinsic property material, but strongly depends its processing history.
